Why am I walking 7 miles? When the sickest of kids need the best healthcare in the world, they come to Children's Hospital Boston. Children's is an amazing place where the doctors and nurses are compassionate, creative, and committed to saving kid's lives. Children's has been ranked nationally as one of the best pediatric hospitals for almost two decades. They care for more than 500,000 patients every year - many with health problems no other hospital in the world can handle.

Marriott asked that we raise $150 for our walk. I said, why stop there? I am hoping to raise over $500 to support Children's Hospital's life-changing care and world-changing research. Your donation to this cause gives sick kids a chance to live the life they deserve. While even a $5 donation seems like it would not make a difference, multiply that by how many friends can participate and you can see the difference your donation can make. I am already half way to my goal, and am asking everyone's help to keep pushing forward!

Should you wish to donate to support my Walk for Children's Hospital Boston, please click the below link which will direct you to my personal fundraising page. I very much appreciate your support, and look forward to representing Marriott, my family and my friends on June 13th.

https://howtohelp.childrenshospital.org/walk/pfp/?ID=LJ0192

Thank you for your kind support! :)
<3 Jenantiwinterrrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07021744403789831027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744199015938068896.post-42741324038343153672010-03-22T00:53:00.001-04:002010-03-22T00:54:11.131-04:00I'm gonna be cranky at work tomorrow.Buffalo chicken dip, Sam Summers, Stoneforge. WE'RE GOING TO SEE SUGARLAND IN MAYYY!!! YESSSSSS! I thought the concert was sold out so I didn't bother to look into tickets. So pumped! What a great day.

JOSH CAME HOME TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg finally!! That seemed like the longest week long cruise of my life! I missed you so much babe! :) Life is back in order<3

Last night Jess and I found ourselves at Patriot Place for a few too many icy beverages, and next thing I know, I'm home back at Jess' apartment creeping the Patriots roster. Why you ask? Well, we hung out with 4 guys for a majority of the night who were being so shady saying they were all in town for a Plumbers Convention- turns out they're all Patriots players. AND- I told them they were a joke and I didn't want to hang out with them anymore, so I went to hang w/ my guy friends on the other side of the bar.

WAY TO GO, JEN. Jess later asked them what their shady deal was, and they were like "ok ok we play for the Pats but DON'T SAY ANYTHING we don't want a scene." And surer than shit, it was confirmed via the Patriots 2010 roster. Wahoo. They live in Jess' apt complex though and we will attempt to hang with them again next time I go to visit her. YAY

Today was massive basement overhaul post flooding. I have never thrown away so much shit in my life, and we're only about 45% done. OH MY GOD. It's gonna cost like $600 to have all this stuff hauled away. It's about time we did this! My achin' back. lol

Prior to the basement cleanup, I laid out on the deck with my book and got TAN LINES. What a freakin' gorgeous day. Who could ask for anything better than 70 and sunny in March?! So sunkisseddd<3 Also bought some gorgeous orange tulips today to celebrate the first day of spring!

Round 2 down in the basement tomorrow so I stayed in tonight to rest up. Oh well. anddd it's always on the nights I decide I'm to beat to go out that people start coming out of the wood work and want to get wild! :(

Time to On Demand a movie and snug in bed w/ some wine :o)

Adios! xoantiwinterrrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07021744403789831027noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744199015938068896.post-11663046618714946282010-03-18T21:45:00.004-04:002010-03-18T22:23:14.864-04:00Title?Day 6.

So last night was an Irish filled evening @ Homeplate. Green mardi gras beads, green beer, irish tunes, Celtics, good friends. Good night :-) The old Jen has emerged!

Went back to work this morning to find all kinds of Post-Its and treats and ppl even filled my candy jar w/ Kit Kats! I feel so loved in that office, I really do. "Feel better Jen!" "We miss you!!!" ...I was out ONE day! They rock.

Having 100 emails in my inbox to come back to tho? Didn't rock. But I made it through the day!

Nana got moved to a cute lil old person rehab center to continue her physical therapy before she moves back home. It's like a freaking hotel in that place! The rooms are huge and so nice, they have all kinds of activities, the nurses rock. I think she'll have fun while she's there. Happy it turned out that way!

Time for a mani and pedi before bed! I can't believe tomorrow is Friday already! wahoo!! and nice weather all week at that? Incredible. Going to a Barstool event in Boston after work tomorrow around Fenway with the boyssss. YAY! Things could get weird. 8-)

Tomorrow? Hump day. :-) <3

So the town I live in is next to this other town that I live next to, and in the middle of our towns is the XYZ River. Now generally, the XYZ River is disgusting and no one even thinks anything of it's existance. Until today. Driving down the main drag in my town to go visit Nana in the hospital (she had her hip replaced a few weeks ago) and to then proceed to my gym, I approached a flashing sign stating that the road was closed up ahead and we should seek an alternate route. The other drivers and I looked at each other in our cars and kept on going! A few miles down the road, I discovered a brand new lake that I never knew existed in Massachusetts. This lake was actually what had become of the street I was driving on.

I had seen all the flooding in Waltham and Quincy and other areas of MA, but had no idea the severity of the XYZ River overflowing! Jeesh. So myself and about 50 other cars did 9 point turns and headed back home.

Sorry Nana, gym. Guess I'll be seeing you tomorrow!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 199px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicLlWH6a_jZY9EZ0vQ2NHACJ8wEdXwYxozN2IdlOgHUIE5Vow6kDyVWszfXvHS21Y5cR2St18cexJxkZuq4Q7Qo590m1cajOojCdtuIg07LC4UJfi6Lr4wsBHqxR5M4P2c7UwA5lEvWzY/s320/Flood.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449402565517779906" />

Today at work, I had an epiphany. I am already bored with my new job. Don't get me wrong, I love it. But once I master something, I can't do it any longer. I constantly need challenges and new goals and new heights to reach. I don't want to continue this mastered path I'm on, or I worry I will begin to resent going to work everyday. In my office, I conduct all Transient Business for Marriott hotels throughout the entire North East. There is only so much to transient business. Today I hand delivered the phone number of an angry customer who was planning an event at a certain hotel and hadn't received a call back from his sales manager after leaving a few messages. I asked the event sales manager chica to show me what she does. HOW FUN. I think I'd be better off on the other side of our office booking events and weddings and meetings. Similar to what we did at my old Newport hotel back in the day. Not just negotiating corporate rates for my whole life. More to come.

Tomorrow night post work is dinner in Boston w/ the owner of my old hotel and our director of sales. Woot woot. If I'm good at one thing, it's keeping in touch with people. Looking forward to some Stoli Doli martinis ;-)

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 228px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi7yZ5QRTDD9AysmNgZig6bhCIeqCY3JxQrFEiZ6jT9QjCXYc0qR7T3-rcb3AXOHOO5q4PHiWdLOzzZaYixkuI7zxegi25HDVHlKzKuMwZhFsx7gmO_TJm_jwesoY0pgGIGdskyp-dUzU/s320/Jen+Idol.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449410788086168946" />
I secretly wish I auditioned for American Idol. No more Courtyard Marriott front office, hellooo Marriott International Global Sales Team! ...and HELLO BANKER'S HOURS! :)

Anywho, enough boring stuff. So I recently found a new book, "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin. This woman basically wakes up one day and realizes that she'll someday be dead and she wants to maximize her happiness.

"A 'happiness project' is an approach to changing your life. First is the preparation stage, when you identify what brings you joy, satisfaction, and engagement, and also what brings you guilt, anger, boredom, and remorse. Second is the making of resolutions, when you identify the concrete actions that will boost your happiness. Then comes the interesting part: keeping your resolutions."

Each month she tackled a new set of resolutions. Each resolution is assigned to one of the 12 months of the year. At the end of the month's section, she tells what she learned from trying that particular resolution, what it was like trying to do it, and how she felt when she accomplished or failed at doing so.

Gretchen's book has put a smile on my face whenever I lose myself in her project. This has inspired me to do the same. I have been searching at book stores and Target and all the likely places that one might find a neat looking journal or diary to write in. After searching to find what seemed like the impossible, I thought, "why not write it in my blog?" This way others can follow my progress, and my control-freak self won't be worrying about my penmanship har har.

Thus, I must identify and then create my list of resolutions. Things that I want to focus on or change about my perspective on life and the way I live everyday.

What brings me joy, satisfaction, and engagement?
-Sunshine
-Spending time with Josh, my friends, my family
-Being praised at work (or just in general)
-A great dinner and glass of wine
-Learning new tasks at work
-A clean room, house, or car
-Having my bills all paid on time
-Sitting around chatting w/ friends
-Being able to get a coffee before work in the morning

What brings me guilt, anger, boredom, and remorse?
-Not paying my bills on time and facing the consequences of not doing so
-Not having challenging tasks at work
-Being late to work or social gatherings
-Crummy weather
-Nit picking and arguing with Josh
-Traffic

"THE TWELVE COMMANDMENTS" (some taken from Gretchen's own list)
1.) Don't be late.
2.) Be responsible/do what ought to be done.
3.) Lighten up.
4.) Be boot camp perfect.
5.) Pay more attention.
6.) Pursue a passion.
7.) Boost energy.
8.) Aim higher at work.
9.) Remember love.
10.) Be serious about play.
11.) Make time for friendship.
12.) Put family first.

They say the hardest part about starting a project is just that: STARTING it. So this is me starting. Attempting to begin something great that I think will produce great effects if enough effort is focused on it.

More to come tomorrow- I'm starting up on #7 tonight: boosting energy by going to bed an hour earlier than normal 8-)

xoantiwinterrrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07021744403789831027noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744199015938068896.post-80171023985394323452009-09-29T20:26:00.005-04:002009-09-29T20:50:01.222-04:00Checking in, checking out, checking in, and certainly NOT checking back in HERE"Jennifer lemme tell you this story... I had some guests staying at the L Hotel last night. At some ungodly hour, this guy was drunk and bipolar and started beating the shit out of the girl he was with and having a psychotic episode. He was arrested and then brought to the psych ward at the local hospital. The girl drove home to NY after this incident last night. They checked him out today because they couldn't keep him for insurance reasons w/e, but wouldn't allow him to drive himself home or release him on his own, so he had to have his father drive in from NY and then the girl that left last night took the crazy kids keys and they've been trying to get the car going all day and his keys are being overnighted to him and won't be here til the morning and they're looking for a cheap room for tonight... can you help them? like under a $100?"

........................WHAT

let's look at this logically.

you want me to:
1.) sell a room for motel rates when we are selling at over $300 tonight
2.) put my guests in danger of being attacked by this guy ... we could be sued? no?
3.) myself in danger since I'm the only one working here

?? really ?? are you crazy too?

He may have been checking in and out of lots of places recently, but my Marriott shall not be one of them. You see, I take the T into Boston for work everyday now. Each morning I hustle up about 80 steps in my high heels carrying my iced coffee and making a mad dash for the Alewife train that's without a doubt going to pull away as I approach the doors.

So I strut over to the benches on the platform, angry at myself for having to have listened to the last chorus of Kristina Debarge's song "Goodbye" in my car in the parking garage.

People reading newspapers, listening to their iPod, picking through trash, staring at you, pacing... do you ever wonder what these strangers have on their plate today? What they're thinking? Where they're from? If they're contemplating suicide? Thinking about their wedding that's coming up next weekend?

It's such a strange concept if you really think about it.

Two days ago, an African American couple sat next to me on the morning T with their son in his stroller. He must have been about 1 or 2 years old. They were a rather young couple and they were listening to rap music via their cell phone's speaker. I began to wonder... was this just another case of an unwanted pregnancy? Were they happy together? Married? Engaged? Or just two individuals hating their lives and how irresponsible they were?

Yesterday, an older woman boarded the crowded T I was on. With no seats left, the woman looked around... seemingly pissed off and bitter, as most old people are. A gentleman got up and offered his seat to her. Granny didn't even say "thank you!" In fact, she snarled at him. That really pissed me off.

One thing I've noticed about Asian people is they have really thick toenails. Yes, it's really gross that I noticed that. But hey, it happened. Why is this?

The other day, a Dorchester day camp field trip group boarded my train with their staff members. They had no manners and were falling on top of me the whole ride on the green line.

Then, there is that small occasion that you lock eyes with a complete (seemingly normal) stranger, give them that sort of polite smile, and look away.

That interaction is written about so so so many times on Craigslist under the "Missed Connections" sections. Yes, I'm a freak and I read them. Yes, there are many times (especially now being in Boston daily) that I think it could be about me. It's not hard to fit the criteria of a brunette girl riding the green line and getting off at a certain stop at a certain time of day.

Why must these posts be necessary? Why is it SO taboo to just strike up a conversation with a stranger? You could meet your new best friend joking about how the train cart that's attached to yours sounds like it's going to snap off and derail... but hey, I guess we'll never meet. Nice not knowing ya!antiwinterrrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07021744403789831027noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744199015938068896.post-66792987666831477782009-07-14T16:33:00.000-04:002009-07-14T17:33:11.742-04:00If I had a million dollars...If I had a million dollars... well, I wouldn't be making this wish list here on my blog. Ha.

So I've started my new job working for Marriott in Boston @ Copley Square and I absolutely love everything about it. The people, the location, the $$$... but I do not, however, love that I work with two men who are far more stylish than I am. Yes these two men are gay. And they are the most well dressed men I have ever seen. It's just fabulous!

Yesterday we were chatting about how now that I live in Boston, I need a few things...

*Blackberry cell
*Burberry hand bag
*Dolce and Gabanna sunglasses
etc etc

Normally, I am not a materialistic person at all. However, I wouldn't HATE all of the above? I mean who would, right? So now I find myself online browsing for all of these things.

So now I've got my new car<3, new job in the city<3 and the above things to come in the near future I think. In the fall or winter, Kaleigh and I are getting a place in Boston. Apartment: check! Then shortly after, I'm thinking of buying a dog. Life is falling into place<3

Then, on top of feeling on top of the world lately, my birthday weekend is coming up! This year will be different however. As a single newly legal 21 year old last summer, I hardly remember any of my birthday celebrations in Boston due to the large amounts of beers consumed that were bought by large amounts of men who didn't stand a chance at me remembering their name... or face for that matter. But this year, Josh is planning fun things for my birthday :) It's nice having a boyfriend again... He won't tell me what we are doing but I know that it's an all morning/afternoon plan with just him in the city, and then at night we're going out with my friends in town. Then he said not to make any plans on the day after my birthday, which I think smells like Red Sox tickets? ;) But who knows.

Brian just told me he has VIP tickets to Keith Urban and TAYLOR SWIFT the weekend after my birthday!!!!!!!!!! UMMMM...... EXCUSE ME WHILE I RUN AROUND SCREAMING IN EXCITEMENT.

...ok I'm done. Enough rambling. In short: life is good today.antiwinterrrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07021744403789831027noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744199015938068896.post-27009822655749846492009-06-30T11:15:00.000-04:002009-06-30T11:16:42.029-04:00Alumni?I just got scolded that my house is not a "UMass Dorm" and I should never do that again...

Hmm... Sitting there, a woman kept bumping into me from behind, but I didn't mind. Chalk it up to being drunk. Here's to you! But soon after, she came over to say hello. I then thought, "hmm, she's not so bad after all..."

We began chatting and at a brief pause in conversation, I noticed something she had on her wrist as she sipped her pomegranate martini. A beautiful beaded red bracelet, which looked gorgeous on her tan wrist. Of course I commented and told her I loved it because that's how I am!

She then proceeded to take it off of her wrist, and with a huge smile, slipped it on MY wrist. She told me that she was paying it forward, and I would have to too. "Bead for Life."

I said, "what does this all mean? Are you sure you want to GIVE me your bracelet?!" She explained that she spent time in Belize and Uganda, and that Ugandan women make bracelets out of recycled paper. She was rather intoxicated and apologized for her demeanor, and I told her not to worry and that I would check out the bracelet's website as soon as I got home. I assured her that she had stumbled upon the right person to have given this bracelet to, as I would later find out that this whole concept was VERY neat.

I went to the website http://www.beadforlife.org/index.html when I got home tonight. Come to find out, Bead For Life is an organization of Ugandan women who create beautiful jewelry out of recycled paper and by doing so, eradicate extreme poverty by creating bridges of understanding between African women and concerned world citizens.

By accepting this bracelet from this woman, Maria, I am therefore accepting the task of telling the world about this organization and how women in Uganda depend on this job as a means of supporting their family, sending their children to school, providing food for their loved ones, receiving medical care, etc etc.

It was such a beautiful thing to be able to share this experience with this random woman tonight at the bar, and I am honored to be wearing this beaded Ugandan bracelet tonight. I look forward to the time when some stranger at a bar says to me, "I like your bracelet!" and it will then be MY duty to slip it on HER hand and explain to her what meaning it has behind it.

So in conclusion:

Pay it forward.

xo Jantiwinterrrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07021744403789831027noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744199015938068896.post-41276624533137371792009-06-08T23:53:00.000-04:002009-06-08T23:56:40.575-04:00"The Front Desk Agent"D you'll like this one-

Not sure who wrote it but I found it on Facebook in the group "You Know You've Worked in Hotels When..."

"I am a Front Desk Agent"

I have advanced degrees in Accounting, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, and Swahili. I can also read minds.

Of course I have the reservation that you booked six years ago even though you don't have the confirmation number and you think it was made under a name that starts with "S".

It is completely my fault that the blizzard shut down the airport and you have to sleep in a warm king-size bed while 5000 of your co-travellers are sleeping in benches at the airport. I am sorry.

It is not a problem for me to give you seven connecting, non-smoking, poolside suites with two king beds in each, four rollaways, 3 cribs, and yes, I can install a wet bar. I know it is my fault that we do not have a helicopter landing pad.

I am a Front Desk Agent. I am expected to speak all languages fluently. It is obvious to me that when you booked your reservation for Friday on the weekend we're sold out that you really meant Saturday. My company has entrusted me with all financial information and decisions, and yes, I am lying to you when I say we have no more rooms available. It is not a problem for me to quickly construct several more guest rooms. THIS time I will not forget the helicopter landing pad. And it is my fault that everyone wanted to stay here. I should have known you were coming in, even though you had no reservation. After all, you stay at our brand of hotel all the time, 300 nights a year, and this is only the first time you've ever been to our city.

I am a front desk agent. I am quite capable of checking three people in, two people out, taking five reservations, answering fifteen incoming calls, delivering six bath towels to room 625, plunging the toilet in room 101, and restocking the supply of pool towels, all at the same time. Yes, I know room 112 is not answering their phone. And of course I have their travel itinerary so I know exactly where they went when they left here 9 hours ago, and what their cell phone number is.

I always know where to find the best vegetarian-kosher-Mongolian-barbecue restaurants. I know exactly what to see and do in this city in fifteen minutes without spending any money and without getting caught in traffic. I take personal blame for airline food, traffic jams, rental car flat tires, and the nation's economy.

I realize that you meant to book your reservation here. People often confuse us with the Galaxy Delight Motel, Antarctica. Of course I can "fit you in" and yes, you may have the special $1 rate because you are affiliated with the Hoboken Accounting and Bagel Club.

I am expected to smile, empathize, sympathize, console, condole, upsell, downsell (and know when to do which), perform, sing, dance, fix the printer, and tell your friends that you're here.
